Among Us: A guide to the perfect crime

Among Us has become a gaming sensation. Despite being two years old, its popularity has sky-rocketed in recent months due to streamers and influencers all over the world who have brought this indie game back to life. With promises of new updates to come, with loads more content, this guide will give you some tips and advice to avoid getting caught and help you commit the perfect crime.

Cooperation among impostors

In most matches, above all if there are more than seven or eight players, there will be two impostors. So it is important that, although you can’t communicate with each other, you are aware that you have to work together - not only in stabbing but in defending, too. There are times when you’ll be alone with two crewmates and, with only four in the room, they may relax and let down their guard. That’s when you can attempt a double kill. On defence, you can jointly accuse or give each other an alibi, carefully though as these movements could also give you both away. But if all is lost, it’s best to sell out your partner in crime; at least they’ll be useful to you dead.

Using the vents

Vents are very useful for getting away after killing or looking for crewmates on their own. Carefully, because you can get caught during the animation so you have to make sure no one is around. The second map, Mira HQ, can be very useful for avoiding the Decontamination hallway on the way to the reactor.

Accuse them back or act surprised

When it comes to voting, things can come out that, if closed properly, can lead you to be accused without any solution. The trick, if you don’t have friends who take voting lightly, is to sow the seeds of doubt. Acting surprised or pointing the finger at the one who accused you can turn the vote back on them. This way, you’ll gain a bit of time and get rid of someone. If you survive the vote you can then sabotage and kill someone else, which many times can lead to victory.

Sabotage sensibly

You have to try to sabotage sensibly. Sabotage has a long cooldown and if they can just fix it immediately, it isn’t very useful. You have to sabotage to try to prevent crewmates from calling an emergency meeting, finding a body or splitting up. So, sabotage when there are only a few minutes left to kill; it can be useful to switch off the lights or even communications. The latter is good when you know someone is watching the cameras because it switches them off.

Close sesame

Doors are essential for hiding bodies or catching crewmates on their own. They can give you enough time to fabricate an alibi. Everyone thinks the body is fresh. No one thinks they could have been killed five minutes ago. So if you’re next to someone long enough after killing a crewmate, no one will suspect you.

Divide and conquer

The impostor’s worst enemy is crewmates that are together. Use all your resources to avoid this, even though it will get complicated towards the end of the match. Sabotaging the lights or other systems that have to be fixed in two separate terminals is often the best option.,
