Basic tips
The best formations in FIFA are 4-4-2, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, 5-3-2, 4-1-2-1-2, 4-1-2-1-2 narrow diamond or 4-2-4. We will go into a little more detail on these formations later.
It starts with balanced styles of play in both attack and defence. Once you understand player movements, try new offensive or defensive styles.
The formation you use should suit both your playing style and your players' characteristics. Don't use a formation if the characteristics of your players don't suit it.
Try to get to know different formations, don't limit yourself to just one. Also, try to have more than one 'customised tactic' in order to adapt to different match scenarios.
Believe it or not, one of the first steps to victory is to recognise your opponent's tactics, formation and style of play. This will allow you to better exploit their weaknesses.
Don't be afraid to change formation and style of play.
Take into account the 'Player Instructions' when developing your formation, as well as the 'Player Attributes' of the players you apply these instructions to.
Formations
4-4-2 tactics
The key to this formation is its balance in all lines, forming a block both in defence and attack.
4-3-3 tactics (2)
The most used variant both in real football, and in FIFA itself, and the most balanced of all. It is a formation to play with a lot of depth and speed using its two clear stars, the wingers.
4-2-3-1 tactics
A well-balanced system that generates situations of superiority in attack and defence with the ability to adapt to a multitude of playing styles depending on the players chosen. Useful for both possession and direct play, for dropping off in defence and high pressing.
3-5-2 tactics
For those who like to take risks in defence and look for possession as an attacking formula. It is a formation aimed at an elaborate, slow and short game. It suffers especially against formations with wingers.
5-3-2 tactics
It may look like a defensive formation, but it gives you the chance to enjoy not only defensive solidity, but also strength from three quarters of the pitch forward.
4-1-2-1-2 Narrow Diamond tactics
A formation to control from the centre of the pitch and whose midfielders are the main focus of the game. It is suited to the passing game, possession and player mobility in the midfield.
4-2-4 tactics
This is the most attacking formation and the most unbalanced. This tactic is designed to give up creating and maintaining possession, instead basing the style of play on verticality, direct play and the speed of the attacking four.
