With the arrival of Overwatch 2 upon us, and with all the changes that entails, both in terms of the game balance and new heroes, here’s a handy round-up of which characters will be the best in this first season.
Tier S
Genji
A hero with great mobility who can deal a lot of damage at close range, with the rare and nerfed opponent-control skills. Overwatch 2 is the ninja’s playground.
Kiriko
The new support heroine has good mobility and can teleport quickly between several fronts, providing good back-up.
Winston
Our favourite gorilla has found his place in the new meta, with good mobility allowing him to enter and leave whenever he wants, with Kiriko to support him better than other healers.
Lúcio
Lúcio has always been good. As a second healer, he can keep everyone with good life levels and, thanks to his speed boost, he can support a full-blown, all-guns-blazing entry.
D.VA
Decent at everything she does, D.VA is a perfect choice for getting in and out, doing good damage and enduring in the game. Besides, nobody wants to be around when her mech blows.
Tier A
Sigma
The changes in Overwatch 2 have left him with a pretty strong skills kit, making him a good option if you’re looking to endure without having so much mobility — dealing a lot of damage as you go along.
Soldier: 76
Playing Call of Duty is always an option. Soldier: 76 has an extremely good kit in all situations — you just have to sharpen the aim.
Ana
With the ability and healing skills to be Tier S, her only catch is her low mobility, making her low-hanging fruit for damage characters.
Roadhog
Deals a lot of damage, can remove enemies from their comfort zone, and has good endurance. Not the best for single tank metas, but he does the job.
Zarya
With good damage and resistance, Zarya resents being the only tank in the team, but her strength has always been giving remote support to other team members, and she still does that awesomely.
Wrecking Ball
Good endurance and mobility, with poor but constant damage. The hamster is a solid option if you know how to play him.
Sojourn
Sojourn is a great alternative to Soldier: 76 if she fits your play style better. She's more leisurely, but can inflict a lot of damage when it gets down to it.
Sombra
She is one of the ninja’s best companions, and her hacking abilities are ideal for neutralising certain heroes in the midst of the fight.
Echo
Able to fly over the map and finish off wounded enemies, Echo can be very harmful if used cleverly. Don't forget her duplicate ability, which allows her to copy enemy heroes.
Reaper
Reaper has always been able to do a lot of damage and has a knack to combine his notorious skills. Although he’s always been an anti-tank, his role is now much more specific.
Ashe
Being able to deal a lot of damage, she’s an ideal hero if you know how to keep your distance from the enemy and have good aim.
Tracer
Like Genji, she possesses mobility and damage, but with less life, which makes her much more vulnerable.
Zenyatta
Zenyatta is like Ana, good utility but lack of mobility.
The characters of the tier below this one have mostly the same problem. With the change of meta more focused on throwing yourself on the enemy, most stand out for getting strong in one area, and that makes them more vulnerable.
Tier B
Orisa, Brigitte, Pharah, Mei, Moira, Torbjörn, Baptiste, Hanzo, Widowmaker
Tier C
Mercy, Reinhardt, Bastion, Junkrat, Cassidy, Doomfist, Junker Queen
Tier D
Symmetra
