Guide to playing Fracture - Valorant

Valorant is very active: the Riot Games shooter hasn’t stopped growing and getting new content. Its highly strategic play and the flexible uses of its skills make it one of the most popular shooters. A new map has recently been added to its roster, Fracture, with a layout that’s quite interesting and rewards fluid playing. To understand this map and how to play it a bit better, here’s a short guide with tips for attackers and defenders

ATTACKERS

You start on the attacking side, which is unquestionably the favourite on this map because its layout allows attackers to move all over the map from the beginning, never giving the defender the chance to catch their breath. The attacking team can win very quick victories on this map, where it’s easy to attack one point from several angles, annihilating the defenders in no time.

The biggest thing in your favour is the zipline, a tool in the spawn that lets you move to the other side of the map in just seconds, giving you an advantageous position, if it’s all coordinated, to attack one of the points from both sides, overwhelming the defenders and wiping them out in the blink of an eye. The advantage here comes from getting information on the defenders’ situation quickly so you can switch targets before they realise.

It’s very easy to face off 2vs1 in favour of the attackers on this map, as well as from different angles, making these battles even more unfair.

The strategy for attackers is simple: divide into zones and squeeze the defenders like an octopus, with each player being a tentacle. This requires a lot of communication and coordination so the advantages of this map are less if you aren’t playing as a team.

- Attack from multiple fronts.
- Achieve numerical superiority.
- Obtain information and switch to another point if resistance is too strong.
- Coordination.

DEFENDERS

This map benefits coordination among the attackers and blocks an important part of any strategy for defenders: camping, or sitting quietly and waiting. The strategy to defend on this map can’t be reactive, waiting and reacting depending on where the attack comes from. This often means losing very quickly as the attackers can kill half your team before you even know where they are.

So, the defensive strategy has to make the most of the advantages of the map, being attackers. It may sound illogical, but if you think about it, the attackers have mobility on their side. So, you have to use that mobility to your benefit. That’s why information is essential, exploring and knowing where your enemy isn’t, closing zones and pushing them into one point and then attacking.

This strategy is based on the counterattack. Waiting isn’t enough, you have to nullify any numerical superiority they can muster, retreat if necessary, communicate with your team and take the attack to them. If you can flip the script, they will become defenders and you, the attacker. This gives you all the advantage they had, with the added bonus that they can’t switch roles.

- Don’t run static defence.
- Get information quickly and squeeze the enemy into one zone.
- Retreat if necessary, avoiding situations where you are at a disadvantage in terms of numbers.
- Use map mobility to counterattack, swapping roles with the enemy team.
